High Wire Daze's Review of Howling Lament

Outside of the mighty Sothis, Los Angeles is not known for their having an army of Symphonic Black Metal bands. One new collective beginning to becoming known within the City Of Angels is Wolfgate, who have documented their majestic songs on Howling Lament. Imaginatively recorded at Love Juice Labs, Howling Lament is a fully realized effort that should garner these guys praise well beyond their Southern California home base.

After a brief introduction, Wolfgate roar into the mighty strains of Ancient Dominion, and present five tracks of dark artistry that will chill the senses. With influences as diverse as Dimmu Borgir and Opeth, Wolfgate present a soundtrack of both brutality and sheer magnificence. Tracks such as Eternal Night Sky and Offerings Of Blood clearly demonstrate that this band is destined to join the elusive ranks of the worldwide Black Metal elite. Weaving a chilling aura of grand mystique is the stunning keyboard work, offering a dark beauty through the otherwise super intensive wall of atmospheric sound.

The talented Wolfgate lineup consists of Dommiel on guitar and Keys, Sloarch on guitar, vocals & keys, Lord Mattias on drums and vocals, and Magus Demericus on bass. On the verge of greatness, it will be exciting to see what works of sonic artistry pass through the Wolfgate in the future.
